The UPLIFT Project in Zimbabwe continues to strengthen university–industry linkages through innovation challenges, curriculum development, and policy engagement. From clean energy solutions to doctoral training improvements, our activities at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) showcase the transformative power of collaboration.
🌍 Water Heater Innovation Competition
In partnership with the Tobacco Leaf Exporters Association of Zimbabwe (TLEAZ), CUT hosted the 2025 Water Heater Innovation Competition. This challenge encouraged students to design low-cost, energy-efficient heating solutions for rural and peri-urban communities, aiming to reduce deforestation and support SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy.

🎓 Strengthening Doctoral Training
The University Research Committee (URIC) at CUT recently reviewed its doctoral regulations to ensure relevance, excellence, and alignment with global standards. Supported under UPLIFT Work Package 3, the revised framework will enhance academic quality and prepare graduates for impactful roles in research, industry, and community development.

🌱 Bridging Innovation and Policy
CUT-UPLIFT welcomed the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development to its demonstration plot. The visit showcased technologies in insect farming, circular economy practices, and sustainable agriculture, all aimed at advancing food security and climate resilience.

Through initiatives like these, UPLIFT Zimbabwe is building stronger partnerships between academia, industry, and policymakers, ensuring research and innovation lead to real-world impact.
